Little things

You all know that I love to bake. But did you know that i also love to create? Lately I have been a bit obsessed with clothespin dolls. These darling little ladies will be available for sale at Acorn in November. Some will be for hanging on your christmas tree, some made to top the birthday cake of a special little girl - all have a personality all their own. I create a little story for each one in my head, choose the outfit and get crafting. i love seeing the girls all together - and i can't wait to share them with you. What do you create?

It may seem that I live at Acorn Market. I don't. I live here. We have a beautiful 12 acre hobby farm. We share it with our two dogs and two cats. We are lucky to have such a relaxing location. When I close the door every day at 3 I leave all the work behind and settle in one of these chairs. I am lucky to have the best of both worlds.

Happy New Year

January is oh so special to me. Both of my children are January babies, Alexander in 1990 and Makenzie in 1993. So in January I had birthday cakes to bake. Alex wanted chocolate. With chocolate frosting. Down and dirty...not too many sprinkles, no fancy decorations just cake and frosting. Easy.

His sister was altogether another story. She wanted a wedding cake. Tiers. Piping. Sugar flowers. Pink, pink, pink - with pink sprinkles. And cute candles. You had to have cute candles. One year I made her an icy igloo cake from Martha Stewart's collection of ridiculously difficult recipes complete with fondant penguins sliding down the sides. I still have a fondant penguin in the freezer. I saved it to remind myself never ever to do that again. But she loved it. And that is all that mattered.
So Happy Birthday Alex and Makenzie! You have made 21 years of Januarys a reason to eat cake!
